“Taking the editorial feedback, suggestions, and guidance provided in Eleanor’s critique lifted my work up several levels of craft. The care and carefulness with which she prepared her notes made me gleeful to dive back in and revise.”

WORKSHOPS
Eleanor will be teaching Shaping a Life, an intensive memoir workshop, at the Colgate Writers Conference again in 2026.
“I gained so much knowledge from Eleanor’s workshop. I appreciated that she not only constructed each session thoughtfully but also, she held space in such a caring way allowing the group to share, write, and critique each other’s work in a deep and meaningful manner. Despite the diversity of experience—some just dipping into writing memoir for the first time and others with a full draft complete—she helped create a supportive writing community that I am still regularly meeting with 10 months later. In addition, her one-on-one manuscript critiques are invaluable. She is thorough, compassionate, and inspiring.”
—Sarah Teck, Health Coach
“Eleanor’s memoir workshop, Shaping a Life, is beautifully conceived, organized, and executed. I can’t imagine a better introduction to the art of memoir. Eleanor artfully incorporates all the elements of an in-person writing class, including lecture, readings of craft essays, homework exercises, and student critiques. The homework exercises were stimulating and manageable for working students. By the end of the class we each had a memoir map and a sense of where we could take our stories. Eleanor’s knowledgeable and personable approach made the class hugely enjoyable and worthwhile for me. The students were lovely as well!”
